As an orphan, Ryu's early life on the streets was difficult at best. But taken in by the Shotokan karate master Gouken, Ryu was given a purpose in life. Gouken taught Ryu to focus his skills and become an honorable fighter. His efforts were rewarded by winning the Street Fighter tournament and becoming a champion.

In his training, Ryu was partnered with Ken as his sparring opponent. Each pushed the other develop better honed skills. And while Ryu pursues the path of honor, a darker presence observes him from a distance. The powerful fighter Akuma longs for the opportunity to show Ryu the true depth of his power. This potential conflict sets up one of the legendary threads of the rich Street Fighter tapestry.

The Ryu figure is an intimidating sight with his dynamic pose and focused attitude. The Player 1 version shows Ryu in his traditional white gi. The Player 2 version presents Ryu in his muted brown gi. Both are excellent representations of this most iconic Street Fighter character.
